Dear Reader,

As audio self-publishing continues to rise in popularity, we're seeing
great hardware to help podcasters and musicians record on the go. On the
O'Reilly Digital Media site, we've just published a review of Edirol's new
R-09 digital recorder.

Here's a device that fits in the palm of your hand, has built-in stereo
mics, records to inexpensive (and sturdy!) SD memory cards, records both
uncompressed WAV files and MP3s, connects to your computer via USB, and
runs off AA batteries. We were particularly curious to see how it stacked
up against the M-Audio MicroTrack, which we reviewed late last year. The
bottom line is, the Edirol is a quality device that holds up great against
